In 2013, Melissa Tindall and Patryce ended the year as Second Level AA Year End Champions in their GMO. In 2014, the pair made a successful jump to Third Level also ending the year as Third Level AA Year End Champions!. In 2015, they will continue to show at Third Level confirming their flying changes even more and just getting stronger. Melissa states, "she is confirmed at home, but can get very excited at shows and she adds her own (not helpful) pizzazz. "

In 2014, for the second year in a row, Melissa and Patryce were chosen to ride in a dressage demonstration clinic at the Equine Affaire in MA. In 2013 they rode with Jan Ebeling and in 2014 with David Marcus.

Although Gail is a USDF Gold Medallist, it has been about 10 years since she showed her horses in the FEI levels. However, in spite of the many years that have passed, she made the decision to debut a new horse, Veloura LR, she has been training for the Simonson's of Camarillo, CA on August 9, 2014.

This was Veloura's first show in 2 years and the first time ever at Prix St George. Yet they turned in a nice test with no major mistakes for a score of 66.578%, just 2 percentage points behind international rider, Charlotte Bredahl, who won the class.

Veloura is a half Arabian half Friesian mare who seems to have inherited excellent qualities from both sides of her pedigree. She is currently training in Intermediaire II and Grand Prix work, but confirming much of it. It is Gail's hope that the Simonson's son, 11 year old Christian, will eventually take over Veloura as an FEI Jr/YR mount. Christian Simonson is also studying dressage with Gail and competing his Lusitano gelding, Zambo FRC. Read more about this pair below.

Congratulations to Christian Simonson of Camarillo, CA for really stepping up to the plate as an 11 year old Jr/YR showing for the first time in USDF/USEF recognized dressage shows.

As his instructor, Gail was hoping that he would have a good grasp of Training Level by the end of the 2014 show season. But christian far exceeded her expectations with his Lusitano gelding, Zambo FRC.

This pair qualified for both the USDF Regional Finals as well as the California Dressage Society Horse of the Year Championships in both Dressage Seat Equitation and Training Level Jr/YR. But then just to add some icing to the cake, Christian and Zambo earned two high score awards - 72% and 75% at two different shows - and competed successfully at First Level as well, turning in a 66.369% on their first attempt at First Level.

I am very proud of this team. Both horse and rider are a joy. - Gail.

C'est La Vie (registered name - Praxis) was purchased by Lauren Rome of Anchorage, Alaska in December of 2012.

Lauren with C'est La Vie (barn name Alec) had a very successful 2013 show season. Showing in the Amateur Owner Hunter Division, they were champions at every show they attended and won the Zone 12 Championship for this division.

The pair also did the 1.20m (4') jumpers and won the Reserve Championship for Zone 12.

Melissa Tindall and Patryce have been selected by Jan Ebeling for two of his clinics at the Equine Affaire in MA this year. We will be riding both weekend days of the event. I feel honored that he chose us for two of only eight rider spots spanning four demo clinics. I am very excited for a great opportunity!

The pair were also selected by their GMO to compete on their team for the Northeast Regional AA Championships and won both of their classes - Second Level - Test 2 and Test 3. Their GMO team came in third out of eleven teams and Melissa/Patryce's contribution to the team score was a 68.571% (Test 3 class).

Swedish Warmblood Mare by L.A. Baltic Inspiration

A few highlights of "Kharma's" life to date:

Champion Mare- Dressage At Devon

Champion - International Jumper Futurity

"Kharma" at age 15 still remains the highest scoring SWB double diploma mare in North America

Many United States Dressage Federation Year End Awards through 4th Level dressage with Gail Hoff-Carmona

Many, many wins and clear rounds as a jumper with Andre Etmekdjian

Congratulations to Lisa Murphy of Long Beach, NY on the purchase of our double diploma Swedish Warmblood mare, L.A. Baltic Kharma!

"Kharma" will be going to the Equitation Finals in Saugerties, NY in September of 2012 with her new junior rider, Julia, daughter of Lisa. Julia is currently the Reserve Champion Junior Equitation Rider in Long Island, NY and she is aiming for the National Medal Maclay Finals scheduled for November 4th in Lexington, KY.

Kharma was chosen as her new mount as she strives to win these large and difficult competitions and we are their new cheer leading squad because we have a lot of confidence in both of them and in the relationship developing between them.

Our thanks, too to Andre Etmekdjian of Wellington, FL for taking this mare, who was showing at 4th Level dressage in 2005, and by using dressage techniques and principles together with jumper training, did a first class job of developing Kharma into a competitive 1.4m jumper.

It is with mixed emotions that we sell this fantastic mare, but we have high hopes for both Kharma and the Murphys and we wish them every success.

The United States Equestrian Federation just trained and promoted the first group of Dressage Sport Horse Breed (DSHB ) judges in the United States.

Approximately 12 Recorded "r" judges were approved for promotion to Registered "R" status through an intensive training program which was graciously hosted by Hill Top Farm in Colora, MD.

The program included both theory and live judging and Breed Show Championships will now be required to use "R" DSHB judges.

Christina Morgan Simonson, Mallory Schneider, Gail Hoff-Carmona

Congratulations to Mallory Schneider for earning her USDF Bronze Medal at the Mission Pacific show in Moorpark, CA on August 13,14, 2011!

This was the first time Mallory ever showed at 2nd Level and she did a fabulous job earning scores from 68% up to 70% on the lovely Arabian/Friesian mare we call Bella. Bella is owned by Christina Morgan Simonson of Ventura, CA. Mallory and Bella took three firsts and a second at the show and earned the highest score of the day given by one of the judges on the first day (70%).

Bella was purchased by Christina just two months ago after the mare had been out of work for a year due to an injury. She is in training with Gail and is a total joy to train and ride. Mallory is Gail's apprentice, but took a year off from showing and riding while having her second child. So, both horse and rider made their 2011 debut at this show.

Congratulations to all for a job very well done!

Congratulations to Denise Williams of Birch Creek Farm in New Jersey on the birth of her colt, Loverboy, by L.A. Baltic Sun.

"Loverboy" was foaled April 16, 2011 and is out of the Oldenburgh mare, Windbourne.

Denise says that he has a fabulous disposition and lovely movement. He will be going to the SWANA inspection in Colts Neck, NJ this fall and he is for sale. Windbourne is back in foal to L.A.Baltic Sun for a 2012 baby.

Gail says, " This colt is so typical of the beautiful offspring L.A. Baltic Sun always sired. He brings back many wonderful memories to me."

UPDATE: On August 31, 2011, Loverboy was named Champion Foal of 2011 at the Dressage At Stone Tavern Breed Show at the Horse Park of New Jersey!.

Andre and L.A. Baltic Highlite won the $10,000 1.4m Pennfield Feeds Open Stake with clear round jumping on June 11, 2011 in Wellington, FL.

L.A. Baltic Highlite is bred and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center and is in training with Andre Etmekdjian of Wellington, FL. He is by Lucky Light, an elite stallion in Denmark who successfully competed internationally as a show jumper, and is out of the SWB mare, Giselle, by Galapard.

Andre and L.A. Baltic Kharma also placed 2nd in the 1.3m class with a clear round followed by one rail down in the jump off.

Kharma is bred and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center. She is by L.A. Baltic Inspiration, a former Grand Prix jumper and FEI Level dressage horse, and is out of the elite SWB mare, L.A. Rose of Sweden, by Burgraff. Kharma is the highest scoring SWB double diploma (jumping and dressage) in North America.

Congratulations to Baltic Star who was 2010 I.A.H.A.National Champion Half Arabian Sporthorse Under Saddle and 2010 I.A.H.A Reserve National Champion Half Arabian Mare!

Gracing the December 2010 cover of The Equine Journal Magazine was the beautiful and talented mare, Baltic Star, National Half Arabian sporthorse under saddle (open) ridden by Kevin Dwyer of Connecticut.

Baltic Star is a 10 year old mare by L.A. Baltic Inspiration and out of the Egyptian Arabian mare, Laylah (PRI Gamil Halim x Pri Rabda Kuhaylah)

Our thanks to Jennifer Lisak of MA, who rode her as an amateur rider, and her breeder, Nina White of MD, for providing us with her story.

I am especially proud of Baltic Star because it turns out that I am the breeder of her sire, L.A. Baltic Inspiration, as well as her Arabian grandparents, PRI Gamil Halim and Pri Rabda Kuhaylah. Nina White purchased Pri Rabda Kuhaylah from me in foal to PRI Gamil Halim and they produced the Egyptian mare, Laylah. Then, when Laylah grew up, Nina bred her to L.A. Baltic Inspiration to produce the really beautiful and talented black mare, Baltic Star. Baltic Star was later sold to Barbara Foster who put her in training with Kevin Dwyer.

Cindy writes:

"Jubi" is such a fun horse to ride and show, I enjoy him so much.

Next year I would like to try to improve our PSG and I also have a 4th Level Freestyle I hope to show. Dolly Hannon (dressage judge) told me, " You do NOT get to PSG and quit, it goes PSG, I-1, I-2, GP"! I really did have thoughts of giving up after PSG, but she's right, I haven't worked this hard for this long to give up. A few weeks ago we got our first line of 2 tempis. Jubi was SO proud of himself he was just glowing. I think he's willing to try to move on.

And we know that you will move on in grand style! Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing you and Jubi again in the show ring all the way to the Grand Prix! I am also amazed to see how much Baltic Jubilation resembles his dad, L.A. Baltic Inspiration. It is like looking into the past.

Congratulations to Cindy Latham of Alabama and her lovely Swedish Warmblood gelding, Baltic Jubilation (L.A. Baltic Inspiration x Spartacus Innersta by Spartacus).

This pair competed at 4th Level in 2010 and made their debut in the Prix St. Georges. They finished the year by winning several top placings as follows:

Congratulations to Korina Veenstra and her gelding, B.M. Inspired Son (L.A. Baltic Inspiration x Coquinet by Concarneau). Bred by Wilfrid Cassette.

2010 saw the debut of Korina and B.M. Inspired Son at Prix St. Georges and this pair not only earned the USDF Silver Medal for Korina, but also captured the following USDF All Breed Horse of the Year Awards:

Fourth Level - Adult Amateur - 3rd Place

Fourth Level - Open - 3rd Place

Prix St. Georges - Adult Amateur - Reserve Champion

Prix St. Georges - Open - 6th Place

Korina writes:

"I had a great year with him. Starting PsG and getting my Silver Medal and all. Unfortunately this did not culminate in a good Championship Show. I had to deal with lots of tensions and for my PsG test (mine mind you...amateur nerves).

Next year will definitely be PsG again but also debut I-1. We might even try a CDI at PsG if all goes well. We're schooling the two tempi's and will start the ones before the end of winter. So GP is definitely our goal but as he is only 11 this year we have plenty of time.

Jean and her mare, Omega (L.A. Baltic Sun x Terette xx) have been partnering for a few years in the Hunter arena. Here is her update:

I still am thoroughly enjoying my Swedish Warmblood mare, Omega. She is full of fire and heart. At 14 she is still a work-a-holic and it is an hkonor to own such an honest horse. Omega loves ring work, she jumps anything and has taken a real shine to trail riding as well. Her ears are always pricked forward and her willingness to please has shown no limits.

We pulled her shoes nearly two years ago and her attitude, gaits, weight and over all muscle tone change almost immediately. She feels great and had great feet too! We still compete in the Adult Equitation, Hunters and Adult Medals classes. Mystic Hunt Club is our new fovorite show grounds! Butanywhere I ride Omega is fine with me.

Omega was bred by Pat Giardalis, NJ and is owned by Jean Tulimieri, CT.

Congratulations to Alexis Tozour and Baltic Rose by L.A. Baltic Inspiration on their outstanding show record in 2009!

This pair captured the 2009 USDF Swedish Warmblood All Breed Horse of the Year Championship at First Level - Junior To Ride (65.526%) - and placed 3rd in the Open Division. In addition, they qualified for the Colonel Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Championships and placed 5th at First Level - Junior To Ride.

Although Baltic Rose started a career in dressage with an outstanding show record a few years ago, she sustained a major back injury which removed her from competition for four years. Happily, during this time she produced a beautiful colt and also recovered enough to begin showing under the guidance of the junior rider, Alexis.

Congratulations to Karin Worm and Savanna by L.A. Baltic Inspiration. This pair won two USDF Swedish Warmblood All Breed Horse of the Year Championships at First Level - Adult Amateur (66.875%) and First Level - Open!

Savanna had a great competition year in 2009. Coming back from a lay off due to colic surgery in 2008, she was happy to be back to work and progressed well in her training. She placed in 16 out of her 17 recognized tests, coming in second in 7 and winning 6, two with personal high scores of 69.714% and 70.286%. Other highlights included winning the Adult Amateur High Score Challenge (First Level) at the ESDCTA Memorial Weekend Show, winning Reserve Champion First Level at Dressage at Stone Tavern, and placing third at the ESDCTA Championships as well as an eighth place finish at the BLM Championships in a class of 25 competitors.

"TEAM ZAMBO" is thrilled to have won the United States Dressage Federation All Breed Horse of the Year Award for Pure Andalusian and Lusitano Horses at Training Level (67.306%) and place 2nd at First Level (64.369%)!

"Rudy" (show name, Zambo) was imported from Brazil by Dr. Anne Peters in the fall of 2008 as a 4 year old. He began dressage training with Gail the first of September, 2008 and made rapid progress. With his talent, sensitivity and intelligence, Rudy quickly captured the hearts of all and proved himself as a formidable competitor under the guidance of Mallory Schneider, Gail's assistant. He was never out of the ribbons the whole show season and won a large share of blues. Congratulations to "Team Zambo" and look for them at Second/Third Levels in 2010!

Congratulations also to Katarina Antens-Miller and L.A. Baltic Morning Star. This pair finished 5th in the USDF Swedish Warmblood All Breed Horse of the Year at Second Level - Open (61.860%)!

We are delighted that so many offspring of L.A. Baltic Inspiration placed in the USDF Horse of the Year Awards from First through Fourth Level. His offspring have made him the Number One Swedish Warmblood sire with the most winning USDF HOY offspring in the country! Congratulations to all the riders and owners who made this happen and keep up the good work!

Katarina remarked that most of her 9's were related to her lateral work, at which Morning Star excels.

Well, as the breeder of Morning Star, I have to comment that both the sire and dam of Morning Star also did exceptional lateral work, so it was sure in her genes. Anyway, Katarina showed just what it means to pull yourself up from your jeans (genes) to the nine's.

Congratulations to Katarina Antens-Miller of Colts Neck, NJ and her beautiful 6 year old Swedish Warmblood Diploma mare, L.A. Baltic Morning Star, on their Second Level Reserve Championship!

On September 20, 2009 this pair won the Eastern States Dressage and Combined Training Association's Reserve Championship at Second Level (rider shown at Third Level or above) with a 68.9% (average score between 2 Second Level tests)

Getting off to a frisky start in her first test (Second Level - Test 4), Morning Star showed her excessive enthusiasm with some free style bucks of her own, which landed her at the bottom of the class with a score of 64%. But when Katarina told her she was a bad team player, Morning Star listened carefully and decided to redeem herself by winning the next class (Second Level - Test 3) with a 73% after nailing five "9's!"

L.A. Baltic Kharma, with Andre Etmekdjian in the irons, started the season with a flourish at the West Palm Beach Fall Show Series in Wellington, FL.

After a month's break in their schedule, this pair won 1st and 2nd spots in their first 1.25m classes of the season (with about 50 horses in each class!). L.A. Baltic Kharma and her stablemate, L.A. Baltic Highlite (scroll down for more information about Highlite), will be alternating weeks of showing this season, so check in frequently for updated resutlts.

Congratulations to Karin Worm of East Windsor, NJ for winning two Adult Amateur High Score Challenges at the Eastern States Dressage and Combined Training Association Memorial Weekend Show.

Karin, a long time student of Gail's, is the owner of the SWB mare Savanna, by L.A. Baltic Inspiration. This pair won the First Level AA High Score Challenge Championship.

Karin also showed the Friesian gelding Calypso von Star Cross, owned by Darlene Phillips of Neptune, NJ, to the Training Level AA High Score Challenge Championship.

It has been a real pleasure to continue training many former NJ students through clinics at Burlington Farm in Freehold, NJ and Sunrise Stud in Colts Neck, NJ. All the horses and riders are progressing nicely and Karin's two Championships just put the icing on the cake for Memorial Day!

Also - Congratulations to Amber Gerhardt of La Canada Flintridge, CA on her first 60+% score at Second Level with her Dutch Warmblood gelding, Simpatico. At the Flintridge Riding Center Show in May, this pair showed for the 2nd time at Second Level - Test 3 and earned a 61+%. Good going, Amber!

And - Mallory Schneider on the Lusitano gelding, Zambo, owned by Dr. Anne Peters of Los Angeles, CA, once again won their Training Level classes with scores of 68% and 72% at the Flintridge Riding Center Show in May. This pair also showed for the first time at First Level and did a very credible job at First Level - Test 3, scoring 62% and 64% on two separate days.

Amber and Mallory as well as their horses are all in training with Gail in CA.

Congratulations to Cindy Latham and Baltic Jubilation by L.A. Baltic Inspiration on their outstanding show record in 2008.

Cindy writes: I am so proud of our accomplishments last year. In addition to winning the U.S.D.F. All-Breed Awards at 3rd Level, we placed 11th nationally at 3rd Level Adult Amateur and also were the Reserve Champions at 3rd Level Adult Amateur in Region 3. I am having so much fun with him and am learning so much. We are showing 4th Level now and I hope to break into PSG later this year, if we're ready.

Congratulations to L.A. Baltic Kharma and L.A. Baltic Highlite, trained and shown by Andre Etkekdjian, on their impressive jumper results at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

These two horses have now moved up to jumping 1.3 meter courses and are doing so in style, often placing in the ribbons with clear rounds. Competition in Wellington, FL is tough. The best of the best come to compete and classes are large - often 60 or more horses/class.

Andre has been working with L.A. Baltic Highlite for three years and L.A. Baltic Kharma for two years, bringing them up through the levels as jumpers. He has also gotten help from the best of the best as well - former Olympians, Frank Chapot and Joe Fargis - to whom we are very grateful for sharing their knowledge and expertise. It shows in the excellent and professioinal job Andre has done with both Kharma, Highlite and other horses in training. Our congratulations and gratitude to a wonderful team.

Conratulations once again to "Rudy" (show name Zambo) and Mallory Schneider for winning two firsts and a 2nd at the Santa Barbara Dressage Show on March 29, 2009. Showing at Training Level Tests 1,2 and 4 under the eyes of Ulf Wadeborn, this pair once again shined and ended up with the 3rd highest score (67+%) at any level between two days and two judges (Carole Hoffman and Ulf Wadeborn).

At their first horse show together - The Mid-Winter Dressage Fair at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. This pair took four 1st place ribbons and a 3rd at Training Level with scores ranging from 65% - 71%.  For Mallory, the 71%  was also a personal high score for her.

"Rudy" is a 5 year old Lusitano gelding who was imported from Brazil in the fall of 2008 and is owned by Dr. Anne Peters of Los Angeles.

He has been in training with Dr. Gail Hoff-Carmona since he touched down on U.S. soil and is proving to be a very talented, willing and athletic dressage prospect. Already, he has learned all of the movements of 3rd Level dressage, including the flying changes, so the decision to take him to a horse show was made.

Rudy was a bit tense at times, causing one judge to write that he needed baby stroller training, when he got spooked by a mother wheeling her baby behind the judge's booth. However, he made a quick recovery and relaxed more each day. Mallory, Gail's apprentice trainer in CA, did a beautiful job of handling little issues and showing him with great tact.  Congratulations to Anne for choosing and importing such a lovely horse and congratulations to Mallory for showing him like a pro!

Our congratulations are also extended to Amber Gerhardt and her Dutch Warmblood gelding, Simpatico, who stretched themselves for the first time to show 2nd Level Tests 3 and 4. Simpatico is in training with Dr. Gail Hoff-Carmona and is making great strides forward.  Although Amber had been called out of town for a week before the show and could ride for only 2 days before the show, she and Simpatico did a very credible job at this difficult level scoring in the mid - high 50's%. They continue to improve on a daily basis and we are very proud of the progress they both are making rapidly.

Congratulations to all!

Congratulations also to Baltic Native and his owner/rider, Robin Dannels. This pair won 2nd place in the Training Level Adult Amateur and 5th place in the Open Training Level USDF All Breed Horse of the Year Awards with a median score of 61.136%. Baltic Native is by L.A. Baltic Inspiration and out of Laverner's Lass.

We would love to post photos of these wonderful horses if their owners will send them to us.

Protege was graded Class 1 at the Swedish Warmblood Inspection on October 4, 2008 in Maryland.

His owner writes, "He wowed the judges! They gave him a 9 for 'Head, Neck and Body', and were very enthusiastic about him, as was the audience. He got on and off the trailer like he's done it all his life and was very bold and fearless, leading his Mom around the ring! By the way, my other Inspiration baby out of Preface, Princepessa ('05), has really matured over the summer and I can't wait to start her in the spring. She is lunging witih tack now. I am so lucky to have both of them!"

Protege was bred and is owned by Beth Paris of Flying Horse Farm in Orange, VA.

Congratulations to L.A. Baltic Finale and Mallory Schneider on winning all of their Training Level classes at Cornerstone CDI & Festival of the Horse Dressage Show on March 29, 30, 2008 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

Mallory, a Jr/Young Rider, and Finale, a four year old SWB mare both made their debut at this huge event, which featured many of the top riders and horses of the area. Finale behaved like a seasoned competitor even though it was her first trip to any horse show and her first overnight event. Curious, but sensible and willing, she earned her own "gold stars" and lots of carrots from her owner/coach, Gail Hoff-Carmona. In addition to Finale's wins, Mallory also won two seconds and a third at First Levels - Test 3 and 4 on her own TB gelding, "Check".

L.A. Baltic Finale was bred and is owned by Gail Hoff-Carmona, Los Alamos Dressage Center.

Congratulations to Emily Houston and her SWB Mare, Miss Birdy by L.A. Baltic Inspiration!

Emily writes: "I bought Birdy in July 2007, as a four-year-old who hadn't done much of anything and had never left the farm where she was born. Two weeks later I took her to her first show - a breed show at Morven Park in Leesburg, VA - and she was named Mare Champion and Mature Horse Reserve Champion.

Based on the Mare Championship, she qualified for the USDF Breeder's Championship Series Final at Dressage at Devon.

Devon was only her second show in her life, and the Championship was held under the lights at night. She was fabulous and was pinned Reserve Champion Mare, second to Rabiola, the Iron Spring Mare who was Grand Champion at Devon last year.

The next day, she was second in the Swedish Warmblood class, behind a gorgeous gray stallion named Stonefire, who had been Stallion Champion at the show. Hilda Gurney was the judge of that class and she gave Birdy a score of 81.2% and the comment 'beautiful, well-made mare'.

I have now started Birdy under saddle and she is lots of fun. We are taking it slowly, but I hope to have her out in the show ring at Training Level this year. She has the sweetest personality - she loves people and attention and is very curious about everything.

I am very proud of Birdy and thought you might like to hear about her. I am sorry, but I was unable to obtain any good photos of her at the shows.

Best wishes for 2008!"

Savanna had a great show season with her owner and trainer, Karin Worm of East Windsor, NJ.

On the USDF recognized show circuit she placed in all her Training Level classes, winning five, two of those with Training Level high scores of 72.8% (T3) and 70.8% (T4).

This pair also won the Adult Amateur High Score Challenge (Training Level) at the Eastern States Dressage and CT Association Memorial Day weekend show.

In the Fall, Karin and Savanna went to Dressage at Devon, the largest breed show in North America. There they placed 6th in the Suitability To Become A Dressage Horse (6 Year Olds) class and 3rd in the SWB class.

Her debut at First Level late in the season was also quite successful with scores of 67% and a 65% in Tests 1 and 2 respectively. They are looking forward to a promising season in 2008!

Omega has had quite a summer. She and Jean (her owner) qualified for the 2007 Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association (CHJA) Adult Medal Finals and the New England Medal Finals. Omega also won her first championship this season in the Adult Hunters and two blues in some Adult Medal classes.

Jean writes: " Ribbons are a fringe benefit. Mostly, I just adore riding this horse and feel we are ready to move up to the 3' 3" division next year. She is a wonderful horse, a quick study, and the bigger the challenge the more relaxed she becomes. I feel blessed. I love my Swedish mare".

Omega was bred by Pat Giardalis, NJ and is owned by Jean Tulimieri, CT.

Baltic Diana was named Training Level Champion at the Central New York Dressage Classic Show with scores of 70.909% and 65.769%. She has also completed her ten scores above 60% at Training Level to earn a USDF Achievement Award.

Perhaps even more interesting is the fact that her rider, Michelle LaBarre, is legally blind, often making it difficult for this pair to warm up at a busy show. Congratulations!

Baltic Diana was bred and is owned by Sue Broida. She is for sale - click here for more information.

(1983 -2006) Approved, Premium A Swedish Warmblood Stallion

Owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that L.A. Baltic Sun passed away from a heart attack on September 24, 2006. L.A. Baltic Sun was 23 years young and was the only North American approved SWB stallion ever granted Premium A breeding status based on his performance and breeding records.

Sun and Gail Hoff-Carmona competed successfully through Grand Prix dressage and Sun left behind three approved sons as well as a diploma daughter in addition to many, many other wonderful and competitive offspring.

L.A. Baltic Sun was bred by Per Paulsson in Sweden and imported by Los Alamos Dressage Center, then in Freehold, NJ, to the USA as a coming two year old. Jan Ove Olssen, a long time friend in Sweden, helped my late husband, Major Hector Carmona, and me to find and purchase "Sun" in Sweden as well as to import several other SWB horses including his full brother, L.A. Baltic Moon, a year later.

For the past 2 years, L.A. Baltic Sun resided in Maine with Wilfrid Cassette along with two of his daughters and several grandchildren, including the approved stallion, Conquistador, by L.A. Baltic Inspiration. "Sun" also sired some outstanding 2006 SWB foals for Wilfrid and others are expected to arrive next year.

"Sun" was by Pontus. His dam was Nirana by Cyrano. Therefore, he did not have any of the blood lines of the famous Utrillo and provided a wonderful outcross for mares of that breeding. He, together with 2 fillies imported from Sweden, L.A. Rose of Sweden (Burggraf x Prima by Magnifique) and L.A. Utrilla (Utrillo x Hetty by Drabant) founded the "L.A. Baltic" line of Swedish Warmbloods.

L.A. Baltic Sun, as a three year old, was named Champion Colt and Champion Young Horse of Dressage at Devon and he went on to sire six winning Breeders Groups of Dressage at Devon. That is more than any other stallion of any breed ever sired! This was especially impressive because his offspring in the beginning were limited to only the offspring of the two Swedish fillies, Rose of Sweden and L.A. Utrilla, both of which went on to be granted Premium Elite status as broodmares (see Foundation Mares). Breeders Groups consist of two or three of the best horses bred by any one breeder and do not have to be related at all. However, as a very small breeder, Los Alamos Dressage Center was producing only two foals a year - both by "Sun" and whatever hit the ground became our entries. The proof of this good breeding became evident and famous as the offspring of L.A. Baltic Sun never failed to place in the top of their classes at Dressage at Devon (as well as other shows) and many went on to win major championships both in hand and under saddle.

L.A. Baltic Sun will always be so special to me. He was such a handsome gentleman with extremely supple and free gaits. When he moved it looked like every joint in his body was just lubricated! He had elegance, charisma, athletic ability and the where with all to pass it all to the next generation. Luckily frozen semen was collected for domestic and export use several years ago and will be available in the future.

He will be sorely missed.
